• Alchemy Crossfit - Hilary Before / After

I had been at Alchemy for a little over a year when I realized that as hard as I was working in the gym, I might as well focus on nutrition to support my goals. After sitting down with Coach Duncan, I learned I actually needed to be eating more of certain foods (specifically carbs) to fuel my workouts. It wasn’t a total diet overhaul, I just needed to change what I was doing, tweak my meals, add a few things and cut back on others.

After around 7 months of making these changes and focussing on diet, I lost about 20 pounds, all while continuing to work hard in the gym and getting stronger. Better still, although my weight has been mostly steady in the 9 months since achieving my goal, I’ve continued to build muscle and have noticed more changes in my body.

If I had one message to anyone reading this, it would be that if I can do this, anyone can. I tell people all the time about how I’m not an athlete, but through CrossFit I’ve found an activity I’m passionate about and it makes all the hard work worth it. I love cooking and food, and have been able to incorporate that into a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition really is an important piece of the puzzle, and the coaches at Alchemy are really helpful and supportive in helping you meet your goals.

I had worked out to some degree most of my life, but not until I joined CrossFit did I see a difference. I didn’t have a set goal or a plan, I just got after it. What keeps me coming back is the community, not only the coaches but the people who go to Alchemy are the best. You have them pushing you, the coaches pushing you and yourself. The greatest thing about CrossFit is that everything can be modified, when I started I couldn’t do anything… But there was a way to get me to do everything. Thank you!

Not going to lie, I was terrified to walk through the door at Alchemy CrossFit for the first time. I’d heard all the stories about just how much intense strength, endurance and dedication CrossFit workouts required – and I was pretty convinced that I didn’t have the skills needed to succeed. I learned within 5 minutes of walking into Alchemy just how wrong I was. What sets Alchemy apart from other gyms lies with the staff. The coaches are knowledgeable, professional and approachable – in addition to being extremely hands-on with members, working closely to ensure everyone is comfortable and working towards achieving their set goals. The only “intense” thing I’ve bared witness to since joining Alchemy is the passion that the coaches have for their jobs and CrossFit as a whole – and this has fostered a strong sense of community and support within Alchemy that you simply will never find at a big box gym. To anyone considering giving CrossFit a try, I could not recommend Alchemy CrossFit any more highly. My physical and mental strength has grown in ways I had never imagined possible – and I have the staff at Alchemy CrossFit to thank for that.

I started CrossFit at Alchemy two and a half years ago. I went in with the mindset that I was going to get stronger and faster, and lose weight to get back into shape, knowing all along it was a journey, not a quick fix. The first 8 months were hard. Not because of the classes or the exercise, but because the scale didn't budge. It remained steady at about 230-240 lbs. I stuck with it though, because although the scale didn't move, eventually my clothes started fitting better, even falling off me. My physique was slowly changing into somewhat of a 'fit guy'. Not perfect by any means, but it was a lot better. Then finally the scale started to move. By that time I realized that the scale wasn't a really good measure of how fit I was, or how far I'd come.

After a year or so I asked Duncan to help me get to the next level. We went over my diet, made a few adjustments, and he wrote up a lifting program so I could add some focus on my strength training on top of the CrossFit classes. That's when things really took off. Not only was I more fit, leaner, able to run, jump, and climb, but now I could start to lift with confidence. That's when things really started to take shape, and so did I.

The motivation, and goal setting at Alchemy are second to none. They really know their stuff and help me achieve my goals of getting lean, strong and fit.

The coaches are ALL so incredible. They are so knowledgeable, and VERY thorough. They are great at breaking things down into steps in order to ensure the entire motion is done correctly, and are sure to assist you further if you still need guidance. They are also great at providing ways to scale exercises in order to accommodate people with different limitations and skill sets. I highly recommend Alchemy Crossfit to anyone, no matter your age, and current physical fitness level.

I wanted to get in better shape post-baby, gain confidence doing the lifts that are taught, and I wanted to make some new friends. After only having been a member for a month, I can say that I feel this is the best I have felt in a long time!

I showed up for a one-week trial expecting to endure tough exercise, but what I found was truly profound. Months later, I still feel butterflies as I walk into gym! I’m so excited by the variety and dynamic moves that make up the workouts; motivated by the powerful, credible coaches who lead by example and encourage their athletes to push hard while never allowing form to be sacrificed; inspired by the elite level of fitness I see and the comradery totally unique to this gym; and feel an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment as I push to reach goals I didn’t think I was capable of achieving. No fitness facility has ever made me want to put on my shoes everyday- its the healthiest addiction I can imagine and I feel more confident in every aspect of my life because of it. It’s hurts sooooooo good and you’ll f’ing love it too!

You guys really do a great job there at Alchemy. The level of consistency, knowledge, and enthusiasm that all of your coaches bring to the WODs every day there is unparalleled by the other CrossFit gyms I have been a member of in the past. There's a very positive atmosphere at Alchemy that made it very easy to get used to and the programming never got boring or repetitive. It was a great way to escape the stresses of my final year at Mac and there's no doubt that I'm in the best shape of my life!
