I was introduced to CrossFit in spring of 2007. At that time I lost my running partner and was lacking a motivation to continue on my own. I got a gym membership and with that came a fitness assessment. That it were I met Adam. He did my assessment and suggested a visit to the CrossFit gym. After initial hesitation – I experienced some geriatrics gym classes before – I decided to give it a try. After all, it couldn’t be too difficult for me since I had been running 3-5 times per week and doing my little workout routine at home. I was wrong! I met burpees! There could not have been anything more effective, in showing me how out of shape I was, than long sets of burpees I was asked to do in my first CrossFit class. I experienced a lot of muscle pain, which was new to me. I became aware of muscles in my body I did not know existed. And I was hooked. I started to attend Adam’s classes twice a week and very soon realized that even this low frequency of CrossFit is more effective than any other physical activity I have ever done. I can again do, at age 42, things I was not able to do since childhood – pull-ups, push-ups, box jumps, double unders… Over time I increased frequency of workouts to 3-4 times a week. I feel strong, healthy, have more energy and my persistent lower back pains disappeared. Classes are always fun and workouts vary every day. Group setting is very motivating and difficulty of workout can be scaled to a fitness level of individual, which makes classes challenging, but not intimidating. Adam does excellent job in explaining every excises we do and supervising us to prevent injuries. He is incredibly encouraging even with his sadistic grins. I also attended Adam’s nutritional seminar, which helped me to improve my eating habits. Now I can’t imagine my life without CrossFit, it became important part of it.
Thank you Adam for never ending challenge.

Fit by 40

Slightly over weight and out of shape. That’s what I was when I first met coach Adam. I began attending his boot camp classes to accomplish one thing…become fit by 40! My first class was to say the least, a disaster. I was more out of shape then I had thought. The good thing was that Adam was aware of this, and was able to work with me and scale down the exercises to my level. Not only did this show me that he knew what he was doing, but it showed me, he wanted to see me succeed.
With each class I got better at the exercises, and was able to keep up with the rest of the class. Coach Adam would challenge me knowing that I could deliver results. He never pushed beyond my capabilities, and always showed his positivity in is training methods. After attending his boot camp class for 3 months, I noticed a difference in how my clothes were fitting. Like I said I was slightly overweight and out of shape. I ended up losing 20 pounds, and a pant size. I felt great.
Once I was comfortable with my boot camp results, I decided to try his box-fit class. I had limited experience when it came to boxing techniques. Adam took the time to demonstrate each move so that I understood what was required of my body. I’ve been attending his box fit class now for about 6 months and love it.
If you’re looking for experience and results, then attending one of Coach Adam’s classes is worth your time. You need not worry about your level of fitness capability; Adam will work with you and help attain your goal!
Thank Coach Adam!
Definitely seeing the results

It has now been almost 1 1/2 years that I have been attending classes at Crossfit Hamilton, with Adam as the trainer. Looking back to my first class, it was incredibly hard and I didn’t know if I was up for it. However, there was one thing that drew me back- that being the encouragement and practical advice that Adam gave through out the session. Thanks to him, I have now reached several of my fitness goals and am definitely seeing the results- both on the soccer field and at the gym. It was exactly what I needed- that gentle push to try harder and the many pointers on how to improve my technique. Adam definitely encompasses the balance of the ideal trainer. One who challenges you to try harder, yet recognizes personal limits and can cater the workout to your needs. He is very knowledgeable, yet also quite approachable. I would not hesitate to recommend anybody, be they a professional athelete or somebody who simply hopes to improve their fitness level to attend a session run by Adam.

The most beneficial exercise I have ever done

I’ve been going to CrossFit for about 6 months now, and I can honestly say it is the most beneficial exercise I have ever done. The first couple of classes I attended were brutally hard, but the fundamental lessons I learned made it possible for me to achieve a level of general fitness I have never experienced before.
I think the real key is that you don’t only learn 1 or 2 skills at a time; you learn 5 or 6. Then these skills can be applied not only to other exercises, but to your everyday life. I play guitar and sing in a band, and the endurance and confidence I have learned at CrossFit have made my ability to perform much easier and better. It is a very difficult regimen, but incredibly effective, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I thought that was “working out”

Before starting CrossFit I would go to the gym, do my 3 sets of 10 for a few exercises, do some sit ups, then some cardio. I thought that was “working out”. I was encouraged to give CrossFit a shot, and I thought it would be a good supplement to my workouts. As it turned out, the CrossFit warm up was more intense than my original “work outs”!
Through CrossFit and Coach Adam Morden’s constant “encouragement” I went from 210 to 185 pounds, all the while adding 70 pounds to my squats 80 to my dead lifts and 50 to my military press. I went from sets of 5 chin ups to 15 full pull ups and 10 dips to 12 dips on the gymnastic rings! I also improved my cardiovascular conditioning, my endurance and my athletic abilities!
Through CrossFit Coach Adam taught me to push my physical and metal limits, pushing, pulling, jumping and swinging more weight and more reps than I ever thought possible for me or anybody really. The pain was just my weakness leaving my body! The combination of Olympic weight lifting, cardio and endurance training gives real, lasting results.
The group atmosphere of CrossFit is great. CrossFitters are from all walks of life and all ages from mid-teens to mid-sixties. Every day you go, you know others will be going through the work out of the day (WOD) together and putting out the best of their abilities, no matter their age, strength or conditioning; everyone sweats, suffers and success the same!
After starting CrossFit I only go to the gym to improve for my next CrossFit Class!
Thanks Adam,

Adam Morden Rocks!

Adam Morden Rocks!
I met Adam Morden a little over two years ago when the Steel City Crossfit opened. I was introduced to both the program and the “Coach” with a free one month trial as my women’s gym was moving to a new location. As someone who is uncomfortable in the standard gym atmosphere, and in particular group exercise programs, I was skeptical. It didn’t take long to become hooked on the Crossfit way of life, and I believe that for me this was mostly because of Adam.
Adam is the best coach/trainer I have ever met. He truly believes in each person he coaches. His enthusiasm is infectious, even through the pain of a “hellish” work out; his sense of fun makes you want to come back for more; and his never ending encouragement makes you try harder and do better every class.
Coach Adam has helped me become leaner, stronger, and healthier; while at the same time helping me believe in myself, push myself harder and build my confidence right along with my strength. I am a petite woman, 36 years young, who used to smoke and eat very unhealthy food on a regular basis. I started rock climbing 10 years ago and fell in love with it, but quickly found my “wall”. Adam and Crossfit have helped me get past this physical and mental barrier to become a stronger, more confident climber.
Adam has convinced me to try many new types of workouts and exercises – all of this leading to a new addiction. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that now I can complete 25 pull ups consecutively, dead lift 255 lbs, and bench press 115 lbs. I look forward to an evening with “Fran”, “Angie”, surviving the “Filthy Fifty” and the “300″. I am not the easiest person to encourage and push through difficult tasks – but Adam takes the punishment and the reward with an eager grin and unending patience.
Thanks Adam. You will forever be one of my favorite people. To you, everyone is a superstar. You help us shine!

An absolute winning combination

Through my professional and amateur boxing career I’ve experienced a myriad of training styles. Some effective, many not. When i went to see what Adam and his CrossFit program had to offer, I was stifled to see people twice my age doing things that I couldn’t fathom most of my professional peers doing. I started CrossFit about a year ago, and haven’t looked back since. The feedback i get from my peers, my coach and myself are all the same. The explosive speed and strength I’ve gained are unbelievable, I can honestly say I’ve never felt so dynamic in my life. When you first start with Adam, you might expect that his in-your-face style will become too much to deal with, fast. But that is definitely not true! So helpful and enthusiastic, Adam is truly a one of a kind trainer. His vigour partnered with CrossFit’s intensity has brought my personal and professional attributes to all time highs. An absolute winning combination.

A drastic improvement in my cardio

When I started Adam’s crossfit program, I had been training in MMA for just over a year. My specialty being in kickboxing, and training on my ground game in case someone was to take me down. I was looking for something to step up my cardio and a friend had suggested we start doing his program in the mornings, every other day. I really didn’t have any idea what it was all about but was willing to try anything to step up my game.
To describe what I felt after the first few training sessions with Adam would be comparable to being hit by a moving locomotive. Within two weeks, so approximately 6 sessions, I noticed a drastic improvement in my cardio.
Where before I would be gasping for air during sparring sessions, now I’m literally running circles around my opponents. My kicks have gone from chest level to head level, and my ground game is stronger than ever before. Because of the sport specific drills in box fit I’ve noticed my hands are faster and my footwork is improving as well.

I wasn’t expecting to work that hard…

Adam Morden, what can I say about him that won’t scare you off? When I first met Adam I was probably between 102 and 105 pounds and I’m only 4′11. Adam came highly recommended by a team mate of mine who was working closely with him for his strength and conditioning training for his sport and over all health in general.
In the past I would always come up on the short end of the stick because I was just too small and not strong enough to fend off the women I was competing against in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments. The weight classes are so irregular for women my size because there just isn’t enough of us coming out to compete, so the ones who do have to step up and fight girls who are much bigger then they are, which was my case. But being in the sport for almost eight years I knew being “too small” wasn’t an excuse anymore, so I decided to go to Coach Morden for some extra help, little did I know what I was getting myself into.
I’ll never forget the first work I did with Coach Morden and my team mate, honestly I wanted to die. I’ve never done weights or pull ups or anything like that in my life and here I am wanted to cry when I wasn’t even through the first round of the work out. It really broke me. I wasn’t expecting to work that hard, but I knew from that day that I needed a lot of work.
Adam was very patient helping me out, he really picked my game apart and modified things so that the work outs would benefit me when I competed, he put me on the same weight program as my team mate and before I knew it I was lifting more weight then I thought I would ever lift. I mean I’m 4′11 and I’m squatting 150 pounds, which has helped me with my take downs in my sport.
He also made me mentally strong, crossfit is MEANT to break people, Adam loves breaking the athletes he trains, but by doing that he makes you not only physically strong but mentally strong. There is nothing your opponent can do to you when you’re on that mat, in the cage or ring that you haven’t already been put through in your training.
I’ve put on over 15 pounds training with Coach Morden, which is what I wanted I wanted to be bigger and stronger. I find myself rolling with guys who are 145-180 pounds and I can hold my own and I felt ready to put all this training to the test and that’s what I did.
I competed in the Arnold Classic Naga Tournament in Columbus Ohio this past year and I was in a weight class that was 119 pounds and under. I weighed in at 116.5 pounds, and saw a few girls in my division that looked about my weight, I knew that there would be no way they could beat me I worked far to hard breaking down in my work outs, rolling with bigger guys, training as much as I could for them to beat me. I placed second in that tournament, I felt like a pit-bull on my first opponent, and even though I lost in the finals that girl had a good 15 pounds on me and she didn’t destroy me like she did the other girl she fought. And I chalk that up to Coach Morden who was one of the people behind my muscle and conditioning.
I was working with him three days a week bright and early at 6am, and then would talk to him about my lifting and how to make my back stronger and what other things I can do to be strong for specific things and he took the time to really break everything down for me.
If you decide to train with Coach Adam Morden, I guarantee you will see results. You don’t have to be IN SHAPE to train like we train; he will help you achieve that. If you have the drive he will drive you to your full potential. I saw results within a month of training with him, I felt better, I was more cut, and I was getting stronger.
Adam will find any of your weaknesses and make them your bitch. He is probably one of the best trainers I’ve ever had and I look forward to working with him in the future!!
